Cast Iron Radiators

by Nuno Batista

It was in the 1860's when cast iron radiators were invented and since then these radiators have been used to heat rooms in houses. These radiators are well known radiators and every one knows about them as heating equipment but usually people don't have any idea how they function and how they are made. If you have some insight knowledge about radiators then it can be very beneficial in case if at some time your radiator requires some repairing work.

It is highly recommended for all those individuals who own a unit of this type of radiator to know about fundamentals of its working so that it can be helpful in the time of distress. Cast iron is used in these radiators because it has high heating capacity. Cast iron has the property to hold a great amount of energy. Energy moving through the surrounded air causes cast iron to warm up. This is the basic reason behind great warmth generated by cast iron radiators.

The reason why any other material is not used in this radiators is that either some other material has a low specific heat capacity or that material is too expensive. If you learn basics about this radiator then it will become easy for you to rectify problems as they occur.

Also, this radiators have very few parts. It has a pipe that is connecting the heating pipe to the boiler. If it is a steam radiator then it has one pipe and if it is hot water radiator then it has two pipes. There is a wall in both types of radiators which is for to controlling of flow of either steam or water and as flow increases radiators becomes more and more warm.
